Singleton and Associates, Inc., aka Singleton Insurance Agency was established as Ford Insurance Services, Sammy L. Ford owner, in 1971. Donnie Singleton joined the staff of Ford Insurance Services in 1975 after a two year tenure with Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Wythe and Bland County, Virginia.The name of the agency was changed to Singleton-Ford Insurance Agency Inc. in January 1976. The corporate owners were Sammy Ford, Donnie Singleton, and Danny Ford. Singleton purchased the interest of the Ford brothers in January 1978 and renamed the agency Singleton and Associates Inc. with Donnie Singleton being the sole owner of all the corporate stock. In March of 1990 Singleton purchased Norton Insurance Agency from Bill and Arletta Norton, and moved all of the business from his original location on U.S. 25 behind the Rockastle County Courthouse to the location of the Norton Insurance Agency at 210 East Main Street in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. The agency is still located at this location in front of the County Courthouse in Mount Vernon. The roots of the Norton Insurance Agency went back many years to the Matty B. Robinson Insurance Agency from Mount Vernon, R.C. Anderson Insurance Agency from Brodhead, and Cox and Henderson Insurance Agency from Mount Vernon. The latter agencies date back to the 1930's. Many of the agencies customers from those early agencies are still customers of the agency today.
